The USS Texas was part of the squadron that landed a force of 800 Marines and seamen at Vera Cruz on April 22 1914 to protect U.S. citizens and rights during a period of political unrest in Mexico. On May 10 1914 the USS Montana returned to New York with bodies of the dead in the capture of Vera Cruz.
