Cute full view SURPRISED looked child sitting to get a photo taken, hand tinted blanket in background
The tintype is housed in its original brass frame preserver, ornate brass mat and cover glass. Backside has a 2 cent orange tax revenue stamp.
US Civil war period tax revenue stamps: issued/used during 1864-1866 and was used as a form of collection tax to finance the Union army during the war. Its uncommon to see these stamps on tintypes but from time to time do turn up, in our own collection we have just a hand full. They are commonly found more often on CDV photos. Since this tintype has a 2c stamp the cost of this photo to the customer was less than .25 cents based off the stamp. Also a plus the photographer hand canceled the stamp W D & Co dated march 28 1865. Many times you will see a check mark, line or x mark used to cancel the stamp.
